Many of us probably started January 2026 making new year resolutions and being determined to stick with them. 76% of people in an annual survey (2) say they ‘aspire’ to be fit and healthy – but what if joint pain or a sports injury is holding you back from your fitness goal?
At Joint Reaction we’ve set our goal to help as many people as we can to get rapid assessment, diagnosis and treatment for their orthopaedic problems.
As one of the largest groups of private orthopaedic specialists in the UK, our consultants have a goal to enable anyone of any age to access in-depth knowledge and diagnosis at the highest levels of expertise. (See Our Mission here).
What’s more we’ve stuck to our goal and helped thousands of people from first diagnosis to recovery, with rapid access to the latest treatments and no long waiting lists.

Sticking with it
Sadly, the nation’s record with keeping on track with their resolutions is not as impressive as ours! In a recent study by McDonald’s of 2,000 adults:
- 40% had made resolutions (an impressive 71% for Gen Z)
BUT
- Almost 50% said they didn’t expect their resolutions to last longer than 2 months
- 8% thought they would give up within a week
Reasons given for giving up included:
- Not getting quick results
- Losing interest
- Giving in to temptation
- Forgetting they had made them in the first place!
This inclination to give up is particularly prevalent with people who resolve to go to a gym. Gym membership in the UK rises by nearly 12% in January each year. However, it’s also been shown that 50% of these new members stop coming to the gym within six months and up to 80% of people cancel their membership within the first 12 months.
Progress faster with Joint Reaction
Key to achieving your goals, whether going to the gym or losing weight, is to make good progress to keep you motivated and positive.
One of the biggest issues our patients have experienced is that the timescales to get seen and treated without going private can be very long. They are faced with long waits to see a consultant, followed by more waits for diagnostic tests, and then further waiting to see the consultant again. This can add months to the time between getting first seen and getting treatment, during which their condition often deteriorates and their pain levels rise.
At Joint Reaction, our consultants can offer you an appointment within days, not months. Since we are a specialist group of consultants, at least one of our team would usually have a private appointment available within a couple of weeks, often less. So having made your resolution to come to us for a consultation, you can stick to it much more easily!
A team approach
Proof of the benefits of having the choice of a team of consultants came from a recent conversation. For this lady, her non-private consultant had been sick on the date of their original appointment in July and the next available was in February!
With Joint Reaction, one of our orthopaedic surgeons could have seen them for a consultation within a few days. Within a week of their consultation, they could have been having scans to confirm the diagnosis and assess the scope of their condition, plus other treatments such as physiotherapy.
No more wondering (or worrying)
If you have been worrying about niggling pain and just want some answers, call us. If an appointment is required, you can get seen quickly and put your mind at rest.
With the information you are given, you now have choices, and you can decide what you want to do next. This is something that many people ask about when they first call us at Joint Reaction. The important factor is that after your appointment, you know what is going on and can plan what happens next. No more wondering.
Want to cut out the wait?
Call us to book your private consultation with a Joint Reaction specialist orthopaedic surgeon. Initial consultations cost as little as £300 and you can choose to meet your consultant at a location near you. You don’t need private medical insurance to book a consultation and there’s no obligation either: you can come, talk to a consultant and take it from there.
IMPORTANT: This article on private consultations is for your information only. It is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice or diagnosis. When you first meet your Joint Reaction consultant, they will discuss any previous diagnosis or scans you may have.
