Fees and Payment Options with Joint Reaction
Many of our patients do not have private health insurance and choose to self-fund their treatment. We recognise that this may be a significant investment for many self-funders, so hospitals offer fixed price packages with us and payment plans to help spread the cost.
How the payment process works
The cost breakdown for our services depends on the outcome of your first consultation and any diagnostic tests required for a full diagnosis and creation of your treatment plan.
Your first consultation
Your initial consultation with a Joint Reaction orthopaedic specialist may be the best health investment you can make.
Our consultant surgeons are recognised by all major Health Insurance companies, including BUPA, AXA PP and Aviva. Some insurance policies do not cover an initial consultation – please check your policy documents for details.
The standard time for a new patient consultation is approximately 30 minutes and for a follow-up appointment 15 minutes. This may vary according to the complexity of the consultation.
As a general rule, our fees for 2025 are currently:
- New patient consultation – Up to £300
- Follow up consultation – Up to £200
- Injections in clinic – Around £100 (depending on hospital charges)
To book your first consultation with a Joint Reaction consultant:
Tests and diagnostics
Your consultant may request tests including x-rays and scans and other diagnostic testing, which you’ll pay for separately. We believe in totally transparent billing, so details of each test will be fully costed out for you by the treatment centre. We won’t book you in for any test until you’ve agreed to the costs. For more details see our “Tests and Treatments” page.
Treatment plans
When you receive your diagnosis at a follow-up appointment , your consultant will create your personalised treatment plan. If applicable, a fixed price ‘package’ will be confirmed to you in writing by the treatment centre (hospital or clinic).
- If you are insured, we provide the treatment codes recognised by your insurance company. Check with your insurance company to see if your policy has an excess, which may result in a shortfall.
- If treatments and/or surgery is required and you are not insured, then a fixed price quote can be given by the treatment centre. Your consultant’s secretary will be able to guide you through the fixed price package process for your chosen hospital or treatment centre and obtain a quote for you.
The hospitals and clinics where you receive your treatment/s will usually also offer flexible payment options for self-funders, to spread the cost of your treatment with regular payments.
