Spinal/Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery

Sarmad Kazzaz is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in spinal and paediatric orthopaedic surgery.  He completed his surgical training and 2 advanced fellowships by 2016, when he was appointed as Consultant in Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery at Frimley Park Hospital.

Sarmad was born in Nottingham and qualified in medicine in 1999. He completed his higher surgical training in London. As a registrar, he spent 2 years of his training on the spinal unit at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore dealing with complex adult and paediatric spinal conditions. During his training, he obtained a Masters degree in trauma surgery from Swansea University, as well as the FRCS (Tr & Orth) qualification and the European Board of Orthopaedic and Traumatology (EBOT) qualification.

Following his higher surgical training, he completed a comprehensive fellowship in spinal surgery from Oxford University Hospitals, gaining a broad-based experience in complex spinal surgery and management of back and neck conditions.  He also gained an advanced fellowship in paediatric orthopaedic surgery from Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London, dealing with and managing complex paediatric limb deformities and abnormalities including cerebral palsy and other syndromic abnormalities.

In his practice he deals with all aspects of spinal conditions such as lumbar and cervical decompression and fusion, cervical disc replacement, spine trauma, vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty, spinal injections and management of back and neck pain. Furthermore, in the paediatric orthopaedic field, he manages newborn babies with DDH and clubfeet, as well as  limb or gait abnormalities, plus Botox injections for children with cerebral palsy.

Sarmad received the prize for best performance in the European Board of Orthopaedic and Traumatology (EBOT) exam in London 2014. He has national and international peer reviewed publications and has presented several scientific works on various platforms.

Outside medicine, Sarmad has a special interest in photography and classic cars and is married with 2 children.
