Miss Avis Ashbrooke MBBS, FRCS(Ed)
Avis Ashbrooke was born and educated in Newcastle Staffordshire.
She trained at King’s College London and then King’s
College Hospital Medical School, qualifying in 1980. Her orthopaedic
training was on the St George’s Orthopaedic rotation as a
registrar and the Charing Cross rotation as a senior registrar.
She also spent eight months at the Queen Victoria Hospital, East
Grinstead (plastic surgery unit) and three months on a trauma fellowship
in Germany.
She was appointed as the first female orthopaedic consultant
at Frimley Park Hospital in 1993. Her special interest is
hand and upper limb surgery. She is a member of the British
Society of Surgery of the Hand and a fellow of the British Orthopaedic
Association.
She is married, with two dogs, Carter and Murray.
