Azal was born in Mumbai, educated at St John the Baptist High School and qualified as a doctor from the University of Mumbai in 2000. He completed basic surgical training and higher orthopaedic training in the UK. He trained as Orthopaedic registrar on the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital rotation in London. He also has a Masters in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery and worked at Botkin Hospital in Moscow, Russia which is one the biggest trauma centres in Russia. Azal has also worked in specialised orthopaedic units like the Bone Tumour Unit in RNOH Stanmore and Great Ormond Street Hospital for children. After attaining his FRCS qualification, he completed the Royal College of Surgeons approved fellowship in Adult Hip Surgery at Frimley Park Hospital and Paediatric Orthopaedic Fellowship at Southampton University Hospital.

Azal was appointed as a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at Frimley Park Hospital in 2015 and has a special interest in Adult Hip and Knee Surgery as well as Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery. He has a wealth of orthopaedic experience ranging from hip and knee joint replacement surgery and revision surgery, unicompartmental knee replacement, minimally invasive surgery, young adult hip pathology and hip impingement surgery including hip arthroscopy, knee arthroscopic surgery and paediatric orthopaedics. In his NHS paediatric practice he screens children with DDH and runs ponsetti clinics for club feet with physiotherapists, sees children with lower limb pathology and abnormal gaits. He also specialises in botox injections for children with cerebral palsy.

 Azal has received prizes at orthopaedic meetings and published his work extensively in highly reputed peer reviewed orthopaedic journals. He has presented at numerous National and International meetings and continues his interest in Research and Training. Azal is also involved in teaching and examining orthopaedic trainees, sits on the ARCP panel to assess their annual clinical progress and is faculty member of FRCS Orth courses in London. He is a member of British Orthopaedic Association and will be a member of British Hip Society, British Society for Children’s Orthopaedic Surgery and British association for Surgery of the Knee soon.

Azal is married to Sana and has two daughters and a son. He has a huge passion for Formula 1 racing and cricket.
